Recently Published Study Shows the Companion Regenerative Therapies (CRT) System as the Top Performing Commercially Available Platelet Rich Plasma Isolation System

NEWARK, DE – February 1, 2016 –  Frontiers in Veterinary Science recently published the results of a multicenter prospective study which investigated the performance of five commercially available Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) isolation systems.

Study Summary:
Blood samples were obtained from 10 healthy dogs for each system and were processed according to the manufacturer’s protocols. The performance of each system was analyzed based on pre and post processing concentrations of platelets, red blood cells, white blood cells, neutrophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes. Each of these parameters were evaluated for changes over baseline values and statistical significance. At the conclusion of the study, one system was identified as the top performing PRP isolation system which was determined to be a system that effectively increased platelet concentration while significantly reducing damaging cell types (red blood cells and neutrophils). The top performing system in this study was the Companion Regenerative Therapies (CRT) System.

Study Background:
This multi-center study was performed between January 2013 to April 2014 by research teams lead by boarded veterinary orthopedic surgeons Sherman Canapp, Jr. of Veterinary Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group (VOSM) in Annapolis Junction, MD and David Mason of Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center (LVVSC) in Las Vegas, NV.

VOSM is a sub-specialty veterinary practiced focused on orthopedic surgery, rehabilitative therapy, neurologic health, and sports medicine.  The first author of this study, Dr. Brittany Jean Carr is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist and is completing her residency program for the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation under the guidance of doctors Sherman and Deborah Canapp. Dr. Sherman Canapp, Jr. is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is certified in Canine Rehabilitation and is the Chief of Staff at VOSM. Dr. Canapp is also a consultant for national working and performance dog organizations, as well as pharmaceutical companies and veterinary and medical schools.

LVVSC is a specialty practice comprised of board certified and residency trained doctors, licensed veterinary technicians, and support teams. LVVSC is focused on cardiology, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, surgery, neurology and physical rehabilitation. Dr. Mason is the chief of staff LVVSC. His work has been published in many peer-reviewed journals and he frequently lectures throughout the world on a variety of surgical topics, including his interest in treating many orthopedic, soft tissue and spinal injuries using stem cells and platelet rich plasma (PRP).

About the Companion Regenerative Therapies (CRT) System:
The CRT system is a comprehensive, point of care tool for the safe and efficient collection, preparation, and delivery of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and BMC stem cell therapy for dogs.  CRT technology has been clinically validated for dogs and has yielded consistent clinical outcomes for numerous indications including osteoarthritis and soft tissue injuries. To learn more about the CRT system, click here.
